03/29/2015 - Winona Shines Bright In Sunshine State For Spring Training

WSU Wins 4 of 5 in NCBA Spring Showcase trip!
The Swampdonkeys opened their spring season with a bang in Tampa, FL going 4-1 in non-conference play at the NCBA Spring Showcase event. The boys opened strong behind strong pitching from Alex Hanneman and an all-around offensive effort to finish Carnegie Mellon in 5 innings, 17-6. Following some costly mistakes in a humbling 14-1 loss to SIU-Edwardsville, the Swamps didn't let it shut them down as the boys finished off the week's games with three victories over Cleveland St. (14-8), Michigan Tech (16-3), and Edinboro University (18-0). The Swamps put on one of the finest offensive displays the program has ever seen, outscoring their opponents by a 66-31 differential and batting .457 overall as a team. Jon Bishop had a hell of week going 8-11 with 4 doubles, 1 HR, and 11 total RBIs. Meanwhile on the hill, Matt Navis had an outstanding week with 2 starts, 8 innings thrown, no earned runs, and 10 Ks. Overall, the guys had a great time both on and off the baseball field and were able to share some relaxing times with good friends.
